Privacy policy
Last updated: October 20, 2026 (website analytics added)
In short: NearSpeed has no accounts. We never store your IP address. The app shows a banner ad from Google AdMob; NearSpeed itself does not track you. Your location is rounded to a ~300 m area before it is saved. Speed tests are run by Measurement Lab (M-Lab), which publishes raw test data openly.
Who is responsible?
NearSpeed is developed by independent developer Saim Gürses under the ElaMoon brand. Contact: destek@elamoon.com
What data do we store?
When you complete a test and choose to share it, we store one record containing only:
- Download speed (Mbps) and the time of the test.
- Connection type (Wi-Fi or mobile data).
- Internet provider and its network number (ASN), for example "Turkcell".
- Approximate location: your device location, rounded on your phone to the centre of a ~300 m square before it is sent. Your exact location never leaves your device.
- App version.
These records are anonymous: they contain no name, email, device identifier or IP address and cannot be linked to you.
Your IP address
To find out which internet provider you use, our server looks up your IP address in a local database (iptoasn.com, public domain) at the moment of the request. Only the provider name and its network number are kept; the IP address itself is not written to disk or to any log. It is kept in memory for a few minutes only to limit abusive request rates.
VPNs and shared networks
If your connection does not belong to a known consumer internet provider (for example a VPN, a data centre or a company network), NearSpeed does not run and nothing is stored. We only count, per day, how often each such network number was seen, without any IP address, so we can add missing providers.
Speed test by Measurement Lab (M-Lab)
The speed test itself is performed against servers of Measurement Lab, an open, independent measurement platform. M-Lab's server sees your IP address during the test and publishes the raw test data, including IP addresses, in an open public dataset. You are asked to accept this before your first test. See the M-Lab privacy policy and acceptable use policy.
Map
The map is loaded from OpenFreeMap (map data © OpenStreetMap contributors). Like any website, their servers receive your IP address when map images are downloaded. We do not send them any test data.
Advertising (Google AdMob)
The free app shows a banner ad at the bottom of the screen, served by Google AdMob. To deliver and measure ads and to prevent fraud, Google's SDK may collect data from your device such as your IP address, an advertising identifier, device and app information, and ad interactions. NearSpeed does not ask for permission to track you across other apps (App Tracking Transparency), so the iOS advertising identifier is not shared and ads are not personalised with it. Users in the European Economic Area, the UK and Switzerland are asked for consent through Google's consent message. NearSpeed never sends your speed results or location to Google. See how Google uses information from apps that use its services and the Google privacy policy.
Website (Google Analytics)
On this website (nearspeed.elamoon.com), Google Analytics is used to measure visits only if you accept in the cookie banner. In that case Google stores cookies in your browser and collects usage data such as pages visited, device/browser information, approximate location (city/country) and button clicks. If you decline, no analytics cookies are used. You can change your choice at any time with the Cookie settings link at the bottom of the page. User-level Google Analytics data is deleted after 2 months. See how Google uses data. The app itself does not use Google Analytics.
Location permission
NearSpeed asks for your location only while the app is in use, to show measurements near you and to place your shared result on the map. You can deny or revoke this permission at any time in your device settings.
Who can see shared results?
Other NearSpeed users see summaries for an area: number of tests and average speed, which can be filtered by distance, period, provider and connection type. Individual tests are listed only as speed, provider, connection type, days ago and distance rounded to 0.5 km; on the map they appear as ~300 m areas (circles) with their average speed.
Data stored on your device
Your language choice and whether you accepted the notice are stored only on your device. Google AdMob may store its own consent and ad settings on your device.
Retention and deletion
Anonymous test records are kept for up to 24 months. Because they cannot be linked to you, we cannot identify or delete an individual user's records; if you have questions, write to us.
Sharing and selling
We do not sell personal data and do not share test results or location with advertisers. We may publish aggregated, anonymous statistics (for example average speeds per area and provider).
Your rights
Under the GDPR and the Turkish Personal Data Protection Law (KVKK) you may request information about the processing of your data. Contact destek@elamoon.com.
Children
NearSpeed is not directed at children under 13.
